We briefly review recent attempts to relate the concept of Feynman integral and integrable systems. This constitutes an endeavour on our part in making the Feynman path integral into a mathematically meaningful entity

An overview of the importance of industrial mathematics

    Get PDF
Modern manufacturing, engineering and service industries have changed radically in modern times due to the explosion in the knowledge-based economy. High-speed and low-cost computing, the development and utilization of large databases to cope with this sudden need, certainly have necessitated sophisticated methods to meet new demands. We believe that industrial mathematics is one of the enabling factors in realizing and implementing these methods. In this article, it is argued that it is most advantageous to adopt a wide-ranging perspective of industrial mathematics in research and education. In particular, this can be based essentially on the novel idea of “construction and analysis of models”, which is a more holistic approach in highlighting the importance of industrial mathematics to modern industries, and in teaching the programme in institutions of higher learning

Numerical Solution for Kawahara Equation by Using Spectral Methods

    Get PDF
AbstractSome nonlinear wave equations are more difficult to investigate mathematically, as no general analytical method for their solutions exists. The Exponential Time Differencing (ETD) technique requires minimum stages to obtain the requiredaccurateness, which suggests an efficient technique relatingto computational duration thatensures remarkable stability characteristicsupon resolving nonlinear wave equations. This article solves the diagonal example of Kawahara equation via the ETD Runge-Kutta 4 technique. Implementation of this technique is proposed by short Matlab programs

Comparative study on Maxwell and Navier stokes fluid equations with pressure gradient over a flat plate for convective boundary layer flow and heat transfer

    Get PDF
In this article, Maxwell fluid over a flat plate for convective boundary layer flow with pressure gradient parameter is considered. The aim of this study is to compare and analyze the effects of the presence and absence of λ (relaxation time), and also the effects of m (pressure gradient parameter) and Pr (Prandtl number) on the momentum and thermal boundary layer thicknesses. An approximation technique namely Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM) has been used with an implementation of Adam and Gear Method’s algorithms. The obtained results have been compared for zero relaxation time and also pressure gradient parameter with the published work of Fathizadeh and Rashidi. The current outcomes are found to be in good agreement with the published results. Physical interpretations have been given for the effects of the m, Pr and β (Deborah number) with λ. This study will play an important role in industrial and engineering applications

Perbandingan inventori vokal dialek Kelantan dan Negeri Sembilan

    Get PDF
Dialek Kelantan mempunyai enam vokal iaitu /i/, /e/, /ǝ/, /o/, /u/ dan /a/. Namun, terdapatnya percanggahan pendapat tentang jumlah vokal dialek Negeri Sembilan.

Mathematical model for steady state subsea cable laying problem

    Get PDF
Subsea cable laying process is a difficult task for an engineer due to manyun certain situations which occur during the operation. It is very often that the cable being laid out is not perfectly fit on the route being planned, which results in the formation of slack. In order to control was tages during installation, the slack needs to be minimized and the movement of a ship/vessel needs to be synchronized with the cable being laid out.The current problem was addressed using a mathematical model by considering a number of defining parameters such as the external forces, the cable properties and geometry. Due to the complexity, the model is developed for a steady-state problem assuming velocity of the vessel is constant, seabed is flat and the effect of wind and wave is insignificant.Non-dimensional system is used to scale the engineering parameters and grouped theminto only two main parameters which are the hydrodynamic drag of the fluid and the bending stiffness of the cable. There are two solutions generated in this article; numerical and asymptotic solutions. The result of these solutions suggests that the percentage of slack can be reduced by the increase of the prescribed cable tension, and also the in crease in either the drag coefficient of the sea water or the bending stiffness of the cable, similarly will result in lower slack percentage

Detection of Streptococcus bovis from hospitalised patients with inflammatory bowel disease

    Get PDF
This final year research project is about the detection of Streptococcus bovis (S. bovis) in hospitalized patients that suffers from inflammatory bowel disease or colonic carcinoma. From 50 samples collected from patients, one have been positively identified for S.bovis. From Chisquare analysis, it has been determined that there is no significant association between the presence of Streptococcus bovis species and the age, sex and the type of disease of hospitalized patients at HUSM. There is possible association between the race of patients and presence of the bacteri . Several factors regarding patients conditio~ validity of the sample and collecting and processing method have been identify as reasons why such results have been achieved

Window Display Compositions: Its Influences on Youths in Malaysia

    Get PDF
AbstractCustomer's expectations from retailers increase with the expanding market demand, where diversification in business strategies to satisfy customer's expectations has become a managerial concern. Window display is one of the marketing methods that sell in silence, help better decision making and improve the store's image. This paper will critically analyze the application of window displays at shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur. The investigation will help establish a better understanding of how the window displays work in conveying product meaning, value and quality correctly towards youth customer, while assisting in improving meaning transfer that leads to strategic merchandising messages and sales

Study of Polarized Wave with a Hydrodynamic Model and Fourier Spectral Method

    Get PDF
The polarization effects in hydrodynamics are studied. Hydrodynamic equation for the nonlinear wave is used along with the polarized nonlinear waves and seismic waves act as initial waves. The model is then solved by Fourier spectral and Runge-Kutta 4 methods, and the surface plot is drawn. The output demonstrates the inundation behaviors. Consequently, the polarized seismic waves along with the polarized nonlinear waves tend to generate dissimilar inundation which is more disastrous
